Background: Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is characterised by progressive muscle weakness leading to loss of mobility, cardiomyopathy, and respiratory insufficiency. Typical initial manifestation in boys (X-linked disorder) comprises proximal muscle weakness and calf hypertrophy.
